Successful sting operation nabs four cellphone fraudsters in KZN

Police investigations revealed they had been operating in Glencoe, Dundee, Newcastle and Ladysmith regions.

DUNDEE – Four alleged fraudsters were arrested in a crime intelligence operation by Dundee police detectives on September 24.

According to KZN police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, the suspects were arrested in the Dundee CBD on Friday after they upgraded cellphone contracts with one of the major service providers, using fraudulent documents.

Further investigation revealed they had been operating in Glencoe, Dundee, Newcastle and Ladysmith regions.

Police seized several fraudulent documents, including identity documents with anomalies. The suspects will be profiled to determine the number of cases they might be linked to.

The suspects face charges of corruption and will appear in court soon.

They are reportedly driving a vehicle with Gauteng registration plates and are from Johannesburg.
