FRIENDS of Vryheid Tourism gathered at Andrea’s Guesthouse on November 16 for the final meeting of 2016.
Those who attended listened intently, as RSA Security’s Dries Naudè, delivered a presentation on the importance of security in the hospitality industry.
Riana Slump followed, with an introduction to an upcoming “Africa inspired” workshop, intended to provide local women with skills to empower themselves in business. The workshop entails educating women in the art of sewing and other crafts and, in the spirit of the festive season, their current project is a beautifully decorated Christmas inspired box containing 12 handcrafted Christmas decorations.
Vryheid Tourism members present at the meeting took a vote and elected to offer a financial contribution to the project and an amount of R3000 was decided upon as a donation to assist this worthy cause. Anyone who would like to offer assistance in the form of cash or materials, can contact Riana Slump on 071 462 8407.
A popular event on the Vryheid calendar, the Vryheid Tourism Road Safety and Tourism Awareness was also discussed. The annual undertaking to inform tourists and locals on what Vryheid has to offer takes place on December 7 on the R34 near the Lakeside turn off and is well-known for bringing traffic to a standstill as locals hand out goodie bags to motorists, welcoming them to Vryheid.
Isobel van der Colff, Vryheid Tourism President, encourages all members of Vryheid Tourism to attend meetings.
“We need to have input and stand together as an organisation,” she said.
Secretary, Alet Swanepoel, writes, “Dear Tourism friends, thank you for attending the Vryheid Tourism Meeting at Andrea Guesthouse. A special word of appreciation goes to Andrea’s Guesthouse for the venue and delicious lunch, RSA Security and Electrical’s Mr Dries Naude for the presentation, Lemon Tree Blinds and Design for the introduction on Skills Development for Women and the Vryheid Herald for their positive contribution to tourism. All of you made it a highlight meeting.”
