Vigilant police officers who were patrolling the N3 on Friday, December 23 afternoon resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

The officers noticed a white vehicle with Durban registration plates parked along the N3 and decided to investigate and question the three occupants.

“They acted very suspiciously so the officers ordered them out of the vehicle. Two men jumped out of the vehicle and ran and into the bushes while firing shots towards the officers,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.
The officers retaliated but the suspects fled the scene.

“One suspect was arrested in the vehicle and upon inspection they found the carcass of a cow in the boot of the vehicle and when circulating the vehicle they found that the vehicle was stolen in Chatsworth last month. Several knives, axes and pliers were found were found inside the car,” explained W/O Khan.

After processing the scene with other role players the same officers came across a man along the roadway while travelling back to Estcourt. He fitted the description of the one of the suspects that had run into the bush earlier. He was arrested and it was established that he had a gunshot wound in his left upper leg. He was taken to Estcourt hospital where he is under police guard.

The suspects, who are aged 30 and 35 appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
