Severe storm causes widespread flooding and major damage

While heavy rains were forecast for the weekend, the full wrath of Mother Nature is unpredictable.

NCANDU – A number of suburbs felt the full wrath of Mother Nature on Saturday (January 14).

Trees were toppled and many roads were flooded after weather conditions took a nasty turn.

While heavy rains were forecast for the weekend, few anticipated the ruin and wreckage caused by the weather in areas including Hutten Heights, Pioneer Park, Ncandu Park and Lennoxton.

As rains gained momentum, the Amcor Dam flooded as well.

It was reported by motorists that one vehicle was swept away by the heavy current on Umfolozi Avenue, where the river is forded by the Ncandu Bridge.

Emergency services helped the motorist, reportedly a doctor, out of the waters.

Trees were knocked over Coronation Road, although no physical damage to property was reported to the Advertiser from this suburb.
