AFTER bearing witness to the deplorable living conditions of a local blind-elderly man, the PR Councillor of Ward 12, Nkosikhona Mdlalose, decided to lend a helping hand.
Together with members of the community, Cllr Mdlalose has worked tirelessly to build a proper house for Mr Mkhululeni Elliot Ngcobo, who lives in a rural area just outside of Mondlo.
According to Zandile Mhlungu, who has been part of the project since it was started late last year, members of the public have really availed themselves in order to help Mr Ngcobo.

“He lives alone in this house that has holes in the roof and is in a horrible condition altogether, and one cannot expect him to repair anything as he is blind. When PR Councillor Masondo brought the matter forward, we knew that something had to be done as Mr Ngcobo lives alone and could not rely on anyone to one day fix the house,” she said.

Miss Mhlungu said that Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) members did an astounding job of not only ensuring that the house was finished on time, but also that it was done quickly.
Mr Ngcobo will officially be given the keys to his new house later this week and he is said to be counting the days.
