Clara Boucher practises road safety for three decades

Clara Boucher said her passion for children kept her going through sunshine and rain, and she aimed to work as a traffic warden for several more years.

For the past 30 years, Clara Boucher has dedicated her time to the protection of children.

Mrs Boucher works as a Traffic Warden for the Newcastle Municipality outside Arbor Park Primary School.

“I started on January 14, 1987, as my husband worked for Protection Services in the Traffic Department.”

She helped her own two children cross the road, and now her grandchild is literally following in their footsteps.

“I also helped a lot of current learners’ parents cross the road.”

Mrs Boucher said her passion for children kept her going through sunshine and rain, and she aimed to work as a traffic warden for several more years.

“I really enjoy the children. I also feel it is an important job, as a lot of children are not aware of road safety, which means I need to help them. I will stop when I can’t do it any longer and have to rely on a walking stick,” she laughed.
