THE HEALTH Professions Council of South Africa is set on ridding the streets of bogus doctors.
According to Mischelle Julius of the HPCSA, unregistered practitioners have been causing a lot of problems for the health faculty and they are set on removing them for good.
“The health sector is dealing with so many issues that are caused by people visiting these unregistered “health” facilities. The biggest cases have been where women’s uteruses were removed during an illegal abortion,” said Mrs Julius.
She went on to explain that it is unlawful for people with unregistered practices to even call themselves doctors, let alone call their practices surgeries or clinics.
“We have been working together with the environmental health departments in various municipalities who often go to check whether health facilities are maintaining a good, healthy environment and check registration, although this is good, it is not enough,” said Mrs Julius.
In conclusion, Mrs Julius said that HPCSA is hoping to get the police involved in order to sweep the streets of South Africa clean of all these fraudulent doctors who are putting the health of people at risk.
