The angry crowd, baying for blood, repeatedly questioned the honesty of uThukela's excuses

A community meeting was held yesterday evening (February 14) at Countdown Complex in Centenary Road to discuss the water woes that certain areas in Ladysmith are experiencing.
The meeting was convened by community leaders Iqbal Khan and Anwar Jessop, who spoke to the large crowd of concerned residents who had one question for uThukela: “What the hell happened to our water?”

The angry crowd, baying for blood, repeatedly questioned the honesty of uThukela’s excuses.
Speaking on behalf of uThukela, Deputy Water Services Manager Glen Singh stressed that the problem started late Saturday night when they lost their Eskom connection.

High voltage cables were melted to the core.
Key areas within the plant were brought to a standstill, which required the closest available high voltage technicians on the uThukela database to attend to the problem.
Other key factors at the water meeting saw furious community members and families asking Glen Singh why water tankers can’t be made available to them. It was heard said at the meeting: “If the water tankers do come out, they arrive after midnight and then just fly past the houses. We are lucky to get any water, as most of the time the tankers are empty.”
“The question I ask is: How many millions of rands is this going to cost?” said an irate Iqbal Khan when asked for comment.
