Vehicle burnt out, gun shots heard

Residents express their concern over growing crime in especially the central business district

An Amarok double cab vehicle was reduced to a burnt-out shell and at least three gunshots were heard during what appeared to have been an argument that broke out at around 2.30m this morning on Smith Street, between Victoria and McKenzie Streets.

Blood spatters on Smith Street. The vehicle was still smoldering this morning.  Splatters of blood were clearly visible on the tar near the bakkie.  Witnesses said they heard people arguing, followed by at least three gunshots.  Minutes later, they saw that the bakkie, that was parked in a diagonal parking bay, was on fire.

It was speculated that at least two people were fatally wounded but this is yet to be confirmed by police.  Details to follow when these become available.
