Update: Former Hawks spokesperson Polela McIntosh tells how his father tried to shoot his brother in the head near Ladysmith

Former Hawks spokesperson tweets about family ordeal

Former Hawks spokesperson Polela McIntosh has revealed how his father allegedly shot and wounded one of his sons during a fight over a tractor on Sunday afternoon (February 19) near Ladysmith.

It is believed that McInosh’s step-brothers, together with their 64-year-old mother, went to get a tractor that his father had left parked at a house in Mathondwane, near Ladysmith.

The tractor is believed to be the shared property of both the mother and father, who are still married.

His three step-brothers and their mother were taking stuff home after collecting the tractor when they were stopped by the father.

He demanded to know where they were taking the tractor, tweeted Polela. An altercation occurred between the family members, and the father then allegedly shot and wounded one of his own sons, aged 23. The gunshot victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released, lucky to have survived.

Police were called out to the scene and the father was arrested.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said that local residents assaulted the father. He was taken to a local police hospital under police guard and will appear in court once he has been discharged.

A case of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened at Elandslaagte police station. The suspect will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court once he has been discharged from hospital.
