Killer of Ladysmith Correctional Services officer gets 15 years behind bars

Mr Khanyile was removing a car from his premises when he was attacked and stabbed numerous times in the back and chest

This week, an accused in the murder of a Ladysmith Correctional Services officer was sentenced to a lengthy jail term.

On November 2, 2014, 32-year-old Mr Zakhele Ndumiso Khanyile arrived at his house in the Kwamthandi area of Ladysmith. He was removing a car from his premises when he was attacked and stabbed numerous times in the back and chest by 29-year-old Sifiso Mazibuko.

It appears that Mazibuko held a vendetta against Mr Khanyile, the reason of which was never made clear, even during the trial.

The deceased’s friends were too late to stop the attack and the accused fled the scene.

The accused was arrested by Ladysmith SAPS the following day and appeared before the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court, where bail was denied.

On Wednesday (March 1), Mazibuko was convicted of murder by the Ladysmith Regional  Court and sentenced to 15 years behind bars. He was also found unfit to possess a firearm.
