R700 000 worth of fake Nike, Puma, Polo, Uzzi, Daniel Hechter and many more seized by Crime Intelligence Newcastle

NEWCASTLE – Members of Brand Holders Durban, Crime Intelligence Newcastle, Newcastle Crime Prevention D Group and Public Order Police Newcastle confiscated counterfeit goods during a joint operation in the CBD on February 23.

Brand names of the goods included Nike, Puma, Polo, Converse, All Star, Adidas, Uzzi, Daniel Hechter, Diesel and Lacoste.

Approximately 1 200 items to the value of R700 000 were confiscated .

SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Lizzy Arumugam, said people dealing in counterfeit goods can be sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in terms of the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997.

“Members of the community are urged not to buy counterfeit goods,” she said.

Mr H.R. Botha from HB Counterfeit Investigations, thanked the officials who conducted the operation, especially Lieutenant Colonel Neethling from Public Order Police, Warrant Officer Matthew Rose and Constable Janus du Plessis from D Group Crime Prevention for their effective arrangements.
