Suspected robber arrested for possession of housebreaking implements

Police will look into the possibility of the suspect being involved in street robberies in the vicinity

A 32-year-old man is set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (March 2) on charges of being in possession of housebreaking implements.

A Ladysmith police officer was in the Observation Hill area on Wednesday morning when he spotted a suspicious-acting man in De Wet Street. He kept an eye on the man and later found him in Convent Road, where he stopped him.

A search yielded a screwdriver and other items. Police suspect that the items were being used to break into houses in the area.

Police will investigate this possibility further, as well as look into the possibility of the suspect being involved in street robberies in the vicinity which have been committed by a suspect who allegedly threatened victims with a screwdriver.
