Criminals target vehicles parked outside Newcastle suburbs overnight

What unnerved him the most, was that the perpetrators also climbed through an open window in his flat and stole his cellphone, wallet and the bike keys, which were on his bedside table next to him as he slept.

PIONEER PARK – Social media was abuzz last week, with residents warning each other of criminals targeting vehicles in Fernwood, Lennoxton and Pioneer Park between the hours of 2am and 4am.

Apart from the theft from cars, Flip van Vuuren’s motor cycle was stolen in Pioneer Park on Thursday morning, March 2.

“My Kawasaki Versys was stolen from the yard, at around 2am on Thursday morning,” he said.

What unnerved him the most, was that the perpetrators also climbed through an open window in his flat and stole his cellphone, wallet and the bike keys, which were on his bedside table next to him as he slept.

Zarina Luck, Mr van Vuuren’s landlord, said she woke up when the alarm system was triggered, and looked through a window.

“I didn’t see anything. When I did not see Flip’s bike, I thought he might have been out.”

The alarm did unsettle her and she summoned her security firm.

“They patrolled and all seemed fine at the time,” she said.
