UTRECHT – Administrative processes have put a spanner in the eMadlangeni Municipality’s works.
According to Communications Department, road maintenance has been halted pending finalisation of the procurement process for road materials, by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).
Repairs can only begin once the procurement process is finalised, officials stated.
The current state of Utrecht’s roads has been deemed intolerable by residents, given the number of potholes, cracks and rutting, as well as ditches created by pipe maintenance.
AfriForum was among those who complained about this matter.
The eMadlangeni Municipality’s Communications Department explained a business plan had been developed to provide a clear framework for resurfacing the town’s roads.
This plan will be registered with CoGTA, to commence in the next financial year.
More details are expected to be divulged in the upcoming Budget Speech, with regard to both what is planned and funding in respects of maintenance.
“We aim to resolve this matter as soon as the business plan gets approved, and the funding is made available to the municipality.”
