Employees from some departments in the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, which includes fire, traffic, electrical and the emergency centre have closed off entry to the municipality this morning.

The disgruntled employees claim that the municipality has not paid overtime due to them.

A small number of staff members from these departments have received overtime payment, but majority feel that they “work their butts off and are not paid.”

According to a source, who did not want to be named, an unfruitful meeting with management from the municipality yesterday regarding the unpaid overtime resulted in the shut down this morning.

Attempts to contact the Acting Municipal Manager were unsuccessful. This story will be updated when more information is received.
