Thieves now snatching wigs…and the scourge could come to Dundee

Thieves resell the wigs for a fraction of the price of what a new one would cost

Police have warned that wig snatchers who have been the scourge of trendy young women in Durban may soon make their way to Dundee.

Durban police said there had been many reports of wigs being taken from women’s heads in the Durban CBD.  The culprits are normally drug addicts who sell the stolen wigs for as little as R200 to hair salons.

These wigs normally cost thousands of Rands.  The favourite wigs being targeted are those made from hair from Brazil, Peru and Malaysia as these are very popular and can be sold ‘fairly quickly’, Police said.

Durban Central Police Station’s Captain Khephu Ndlovu confirmed that they had received a number of complaints from women who were robbed of their expensive wigs.

We want to warn women about this latest type of crime. They must be careful when they walk on the streets of Durban”.

Now it is feared that this kind of crime will also spread to other areas of the Province including Dundee.
