Minister of Science & Technology Naledi Pandor and Deputy Minister Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi – along with MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, uThukela District Municipality Deputy Mayor Nombali Sibiya and Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Vincent Madlala – visited the area of Ilenge to hand over 30 computers to Isigidisabathembu Primary School on Saturday (May 6).
The school was the recipient of the state-of-the-art computers after a letter of request from the school, which Minister Naledi Pandor highlighted. The president once visited the area and came back with this request to parliament for technology development in the area.
In her speech to the community members gathered at the event, the Minister promised to return to the area of Ward 30 for farming activities, since there are no agricultural activities in the area.
She also encouraged the youth to engage themselves in Physical Science and Mathematics because this country needs more engineers and scientists.
The school also received solar panels which use interactive electricity, hence minimising the usage of electricity.
These products are generated here in South Africa, which are in demand by other countries and have started being exported to countries like China.
KZN MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo voiced words of encouragement to the students to use these resources for their own benefit in order to broaden their minds and enhance their skills set.
Inkosi Sithole thanked the Minister for her contribution and also asked the community to look after their facilities and maintain them in good condition.
Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Vincent Madlala delivered a vote of thanks, and greatly thanked the Minister for the outstanding contribution the department has made. He also thanked all the stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event, as well as encouraging the learners to take good care of the facility and report any wrong doing.
