“Our prime purpose, as we have taken office in this new municipality, is to make sure that the community receives the services they need. We are going to do everything in our ability, working along with other stakeholders like Eskom, in bringing about service delivery to the people,” said Mayor Madlala.

Induna Mr Mbatha, under Inkosi Sithole, thanked Eskom and the municipality on behalf of the community, saying that they have been anticipating having electricity in their homes. Because of lack of electricity, there has been a high level of stock theft and attacks.

Mr Nkosi from Eskom in Newcastle stated that the project was due to begin in May and be completed in December 2017. He said that a challenge is working through the mountainous area, as most homes are in the mountains, but the job will get done.

He added that five contractors will be introduced in the Oqongwini and Ntendeni areas.
