Water restrictions are to be re-imposed

“Therefore, should the Buffalo River flow deteriorate during the coming winter months, Tom Worthington dam will be the back-up supply source. "

Water restrictions are to be again implemented in Endumeni. The restrictions were re-introduced on Monday, May 22, following a high water consumption rate in the municipal area and a drop in the flow of the Buffalo River from where Endumeni receives its water supply.
“We have no option but to impose the restrictions from 9pm to 4am every day. The full complement of Tayside water supply will be purified and supplied, however, the supply from the Verdruk dam will be closed and will no longer supplement water extracted via the Tayside pump station, as was the case for the past couple of weeks. The reason for this is to save the available local dam water for the coming winter months,“ said Nomonde Nzimakwe of the Umzinyathi District Municipality.
Dam levels are still low with the Donald McHardy dam is at a disappointing 9.9%, Verdruk dam is 58%, Preston Pan is 34% and the Tom Worthington dam is 87%. “Therefore, should the Buffalo River flow deteriorate during the coming winter months, Tom Worthington dam will be the back-up supply source.
“Communities are urged to use water sparingly as the drought is not over yet,” urged Nomonde.
