UPDATE: ANC happy with progress in Nquthu
Police are closely monitoring the elections in case anyone tries to intimidate voters or if their presence constitutes intimidation

The African National Congress has, so far, expressed satisfaction that the voting process in the Nquthu municipality has got off to a good start, with all 117 voting stations opening on time. There are around 89 000 registered voters in the municipal area.
“In as far as we are concerned; it is all systems go for the ANC. Our agents are out in the voter’s stations with our leadership closely watching the process. We have mobilized to ensure monitoring across the length and breadth of Nquthu municipality. Even now, we urge people to go and vote for the ANC so that if Nquthu joins the list of freed municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal,” said Mdumiseni Ntuli, KZN ANC spokesman.
Mr Ntuli, however, noted that at some voting station there were minor glitches such as one scanner instead of two.
“The weather looks good, making it possible for people to cast their votes. Voters are trickling in, but we’ve had no problems so-far”; added Mr Ntuli.

The Forum for Service Delivery is putting in a big showing in the election. The Forum has two seats in the Newcastle municipality and several seats in other provinces. They say their focus is ‘purely service delivery – the basics such as roads, water, sanitation, housing etc. which places like Nquthu are lacking’.
The DA, IFP, EFF and NFP are all active in the area and the town is buzzing with anticipation.
