Update: Senior Ladysmith municipal official charged with fraud

It is believed that the 45-year-old suspect is a foreign national and was in possession of fraudulent documents which he was using to be in the country

Police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig has released information with regards to the arrest of a senior Alfred Duma Local Municipality official.

On May 11, the 45-year-old man was arrested on a charge of fraud.

He appeared briefly in A-court on May 12 and was remanded into custody. He then made a second appearance for a formal bail application and was granted bail of R1000.

It is believed that the 45-year-old suspect is a foreign national and was in possession of fraudulent documents which he was using to be in the country.

The senior official is due in court again on June 12.
