Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality on lockdown

Hundreds of contract workers stand to lose their jobs

“Get out for your own safety.”

This is the instruction that was given to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality staff this morning.

Majority of municipal staff are outside the civic building in Victoria Street.

This, according to a source, is after the contracts of more than 300 workers were not renewed.

These contract workers are employed in departments across the municipality, and include staff from the previous Umtshezi and Imbabazane municipalities, which have now merged.

Hundreds of contract workers stand to lose their jobs.

Some employees have been working on a contract basis for more than three years.
