PIONEER PARK – Almost two months on, the vehicle licensing system at the Amajuba Mall Post Office is still down.
The Newcastle Advertiser reported on this matter earlier in the month, including complaints from residents who had to visit the CBD branch to renew vehicle licenses.
Some described this as a massive inconvenience.
Since then, a promised response from South African Post Office (SAPO) officials has provided an explanation for the situation.
“The system for the renewal of motor vehicle licenses at Post Office branches is managed by the Department of Transport,” explained Johan Kruger of the SAPO Communications Division.
Kruger said the problem with the renewal facility at the Amajuba Post Office was reported to the Department, and a technician was due to visit the branch in May.
“The license renewal system remains available at other Post Office branches in neighbouring towns, and motorists are welcome to renew their car licenses there,” he concluded.
However, notices up at the Amajuba Mall branch indicate the problem has endured.
The notices encouraged residents to renew their licenses at the SAPO branch on Scott Street, at the Post Office in Madadeni or at the Department of Transport itself.
This has left residents shaking their heads in frustration.
A senior official with SAPO in the Newcastle area was contacted for clarity earlier in the month, and he said he was aware of the failure of the licensing system.
He was informed however, that the matter was resolved.
