Residents upset about illegal dumping in Leonardsville, Ladysmith

"This is so unhygienic and filthy; it is so frustrating that people would do something like this"

Leonardsville residents are angry about the illegal dumping that is taking place in Chandu Road, as they feel it brings down the value of their houses and makes the street look dirty.

Residents feel that because the grass is long and never gets cut, people think it’s okay to just throw their rubbish there and add to an already untidy looking street.

They say they are fed up and the municipality should put up warning signs that people will be fined if they are caught dumping illegally.

“This is so unhygienic and filthy; it is so frustrating that people would do something like this. We do have a truck that comes every week to remove trash from people’s homes, but it seems like some people are too impatient to wait,” said Councillor L Bhoobun.

“The people who do this are inconsiderate and do not think about others,” fumed one resident.

Residents urge the municipality to not only put up warning signs, but also drive by and pick up the trash that is piling up in the area.
