Water leaks in Ajantha Crescent for weeks on end

Residents ask why so much clean water is just being allowed to waste as it flows down the drain

Residents of Ajantha Crescent are angry because a burst water pipe has not been fixed for weeks on end.

One of the valves burst at the end of the street, at the corner of Kandahar Avenue, and water has been left to run down the road to the nearest storm-water drain.

Residents say that all their driveways are basically underwater.

Consequently, they cannot drive in and out of their yards, as water splashes up all over their cars.

One resident commented that the water has been there for so long now that it’s turning green in colour.

IFP councillor Abbas Warasally said he has had many calls about the constantly leaking water and has taken the matter further with uThukela.

Residents say that uThukela workers have been out to attend to the problem, yet water continues to leak.

They ask why so much clean water is just being allowed to waste as it flows down the drain.

Residents are also concerned about the huge hole that has been left on the pavement, saying that schoolchildren walk in the area every day. “What will happen if one of them falls into the hole and seriously injures themselves?” asked one resident.

Residents want the problem to be fixed as soon as possible to save water and stop a tragic accident from happening.
