A  substantial sum of money was stolen when six men, one of whom was armed, threatened a shop owner and a relative outside Savemore Supermarket last Thursday evening.
Police said the owner and his nephew were walking to their vehicle at around 6.30pm after locking up when they were approached by two men who pointed a firearm at them.
There were four other men in the vicinity – one of whom took the nephew’s cellphone, assaulted him and locked him in the boot of the car. They forced the owner to back into the shop and instructed him to open the safe. This he did and the men made off with thousands of Rands in cash. Before leaving, the men ripped out the security footage system. The robbers fled in a getaway car parked near Porto’s Fish and Chips. No arrests have been made.
