After a public display of frustration by Fairleigh residents, a meeting on June 7 by their Ward councillor could still not subdue them.
The meeting was held at the Fairleigh community hall, and Cllr Ngcobo responded to a memorandum handed to him on (May 29).
The community’s main concerns included the alleged lack of service delivery, and the allocation of houses in the recent Siyahlala-la project.
Cllr Ngcobo attempted to provide a response to the Fairleigh residents, but was greeted with much antagonism.
In addition, Cllr Ngcobo claimed he consulted with relevant stakeholders reagrding the issues raised.
The representative and other stakeholders were not present at the meeting as initially agreed.
The municipality allegedly promised to build 1 205 RDP houses. 30 per cent of which would be allocated to Fairleigh residents.
Cllr Ngcobo confirmed there was an agreement on the housing project to eradicate the slums in Siyahlala-la.
In the spirit of integration, it was agreed Fairleigh residents would receive 30 per cent of the housing project.
In the allocation of houses Paradise was not considered.
“Due to the municipal elections at the end of August 2016, Paradise become a part of Ward 25,” confirmed Cllr Ngcobo.
A request was made to conduct an investigation into the allegations made against the Ward 25 committee members and himself. Cllr Ngcobo assured the community the matter was escalated to the office of the Speaker.
“I cannot investigate myself; therefore I have referred the matter to the Speaker.”
As a result, the meeting then took a turn for the worse when residents intervened and challenged Cllr Ngcobo further.
“As members of the community we have a right to point out our grievances. Furthermore, you are our councillor, you are here to listen to what we have to say,” said the resident.
