Water leak trickles on at Belmont Court

Three of the manholes inside the property are spurting water

Belmont Court residents are still wading through a water leak that is invading the backyard. This is no new feat for the residents; the water leak has been meandering into their laundry area, under the foundation of buildings and causing frustration since February this year.

Three of the manholes inside the property are spurting water. Investigating the cause of the leak has been an uphill battle for one of the residents, Angela Keyter, who has been bearing the cost and irritation of numerous phone calls and messages.

Just over a week ago, staff from Uthukela District Municipality again paid a visit to the flat, where each of the manholes on the property were opened and checked for any blockages. A refuse bag was removed from one of the manholes.

This manhole, which is used by the neighbouring health institution, continued leaking. Two other manholes at Belmont Court, which does not belong to the flat, also continued leaking.

Finding the source of the leak has become increasingly difficult, as Mrs Keyter explained on Saturday, that district municipality staff insist that the leak and the repair lies with the residents of Belmont Court. However, the leaking manholes were initially linked to the clinic neighbouring the flat.

“We are at our wits end with this leak. No one seems to take responsibility to find the cause,” said a frustrated Mrs Keyter.
