Members of the public are urged to be aware of an Eskom job scam that is doing the rounds on social media.
Lindiwe Mthethwa, who almost fell for the scam, urges job seekers to be vigilant in this regard.
“I received a text message on WhatsApp which was an advert for the Eskom power station that is set to open in Colenso,” said Lindiwe.
Following up on the advert, Lindiwe contacted the cell-phone number that was provided as a reference for finding out more about the job. She spoke to a man calling himself Mr Mokoena, who claimed to be working for Eskom and said he was responsible for hiring people.
“The man confirmed the advert, but stated that I should pay R2500 up-front to secure the job. That is when I realised it was a scam,” said Lindiwe.
After the ordeal, she contacted Eskom to ask in-depth about the job. Eskom confirmed that they were not in fact hiring and they did not know of a person named Mr Mokoena.
Lindiwe urges all desperate job seekers not to fall for this scam.
