Dangerous bridge left in poor condition

Some of the barrier poles on the bridge are not there at all, while others are broken and dangling off the structure

The Ladysmith Gazette ran a story about the terrible state of the Cemetery Road pedestrian bridge on April 9, 2015, but up until now, nothing has been done to sort out the problem.

Many pedestrians fear for their lives while crossing the bridge every day, as they go to work and return to their homes.

Known by many as the “Spooky Bridge”, people’s fear of crossing it stems not only from the fact that it is right next to the graveyard and flanked by scary-looking trees.

Some of the barrier poles on the bridge are not there at all, while others are broken and dangling off the structure.

Being hidden away by overgrown grass, motorists sometimes can’t see the bridge as they pass by, making it dangerous for pedestrians to use.

“It is also very dangerous at night, as a criminal could easily attack and throw someone off,” said a concerned pedestrian.
