Update: Elite K9 Unit officers recover stolen items after armed robbery at wholesaler in Ladysmith
29 cartons of cigarettes and a large amount of cash was found
K9 Unit officers have recovered some of the cash and goods that were stolen in this morning’s (Wednesday) armed robbery at Buy ‘n Save Wholesalers in Illing Road.
A group of six men armed with guns and knives stormed into the store, catching staff and customers by surprise. The robbers fled with a substantial amount of cash, cartons of cigarettes and cell-phones.
No one was injured, but staff and customers are traumatised after the horrific ordeal.
Management is grateful that no one was injured. “Robberies can happen anywhere; we’re just delighted that no one was hurt or killed,” is the message from management.

During a search of the area, members of the Ladysmith K9 Unit spotted a group of three people dividing up possessions in a bushy area near the old Matthew’s Farm.
As soon as the three men were approached by police, they sped off on foot in different directions, into the bushes.
The robbers made a run for it, crossing the Klip River in the direction of Steadville, leaving behind a trail of money and items stolen in the robbery.
29 cartons of cigarettes as well as a large amount of cash was found.
Police have launched a massive manhunt for the suspects.
