Burglar gets more than he bargained for
Members of Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch responded to a call for assistance after a house in Uitlander Street was targeted by a daylight robber.
A BRAZEN burglar came off second best last Thursday when Neighbourhood Watch members stopped him in his tracks.
Members of Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch responded to a call for assistance after a house in Uitlander Street was targeted by a daylight robber who entered the premises illegally and helped himself to gardening equipment.
Upon their arrival, the Neighbourhood Watch members received a tip off that the suspect was at the corner of South and Mason Streets with the stolen brushcutter in his possession.

When approached by the members, the suspect threw down the brushcutter and attempted to flee in the direction of a nearby open field, towards a stream in the area. When he reached the stream he removed his jacket and cap. Neighbourhood Watch’s attending crew requested that he surrender, but he tried to escape through a stream of sewage.
The man was pursued on foot and caught, after being surrounded, in a tunnel below South Street.
The suspect was identified by the owner of the stolen goods as a previous employee.
