Mandrax bust in Hlobane
Hlobane SAPS and Vryheid SAPS discovered the makeshift mandrax 'kitchen' approximately 20 metres from a Hlobane homestead.
WHAT’s cooking in Hlobane?
Mandrax. That’s what. This was discovered last Wednesday, when police received a report of a homestead in Hlobane suspected of selling drugs. Residents also reported a bad smell emanating from the area.
Upon investigation, members of Hlobane SAPS and Vryheid SAPS discovered the makeshift ‘kitchen’ approximately 20 metres from the homestead, where the equipment and ingredients for a sizeable serving of mandrax, was being stored.

A forensics team from Durban arrived and confirmed that the ingredients were those used in the making of that specific drug and the evidence was subsequently removed.
One suspect was arrested and charged with possession of dagga, which was also found on the premises. However, the two Nigerian suspects were not present at the time of the bust. It is rumoured that the dealers were also attempting to recruit young women to sell their wares, but this has not been confirmed.
