Police believe they have traced and arrested the suspects involved in the murder of two women from the Emdwebu area in Ntabamhlophe.
The women were brutally attacked and beaten to death with a blunt object, after they were suspected of meddling in witchcraft.
They were at home, when during the early hours of the morning on June 15; a group of men invaded their home and severely assaulted them.
“Their lifeless bodies were discovered the following day by neighbours and police were summoned. The gruesome crime scene was processed and detectives began their investigation, which led to the arrest of four men later the same day,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
The suspects are aged between 24 to 34-years-old. While processing the murder scene, police recovered several exhibits, one of which is the alleged murder weapon. On June 19, the four suspects made their first appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court while Ntabamhlophe detectives traced and arrested the fifth suspect, who appeared in court the following day.
“All five of the accused were remanded in custody pending further investigation. The case was remanded to June 26 where the accused face two counts of murder,” added Captain Struwig.
