Ladysmith police are currently investigating a case of theft out of a motor vehicle after a man was robbed of his property recently.
The modus operandi (particular way or method of doing something) used by the criminals is possibly new, so members of the community should take heed so as not to also fall victim to these thieves in the future.
The incident took place in Murchison Street, where a couple parked their vehicle opposite a clothing store. While the woman went into the store, her husband waited for her in the vehicle.
As he sat waiting, he heard a lady having an excitable conversation on her cell-phone while standing near his car.

She was shouting and making it known that she had won something. Other females joined her.
While the man’s attention was focused on the group, he heard his car door opening.
Thinking it was his wife returning, the man looked around only to find it was a strange man. The man grabbed his cell-phone from the car and ran off.
In the interests of securing your property, police would like to provide the following safety tips:
- Be vigilant at all times; do not allow yourself to become distracted.
- Always keep your vehicle’s windows closed and the doors locked.
- Don’t keep valuables in view; rather lock them in the boot or cover them up.
