One of the “hammer men” has been arrested for the robbery of Jani Store in Koppie Alleen Farm, Dannhauser.
The 27-year-old from Jersey Farm and two other men are believed to have robbed the shop, which is owned by a foreign national, by using hammers to break through the wall.
When they gained entrance into the store, they fired one shot, demanding that the owner handover the safe keys.
When he refused, they broke open the safe and took cash, airtime, cigarettes and cellphones to the value of R30 000 and fled the scene.

The police responded immediately and after searching the area, found one of the men with the vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery. The investigation continued and a second man was arrested on June 29 by Captain Ahmed.
He will appear in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court on July 3.
