Provincial Taxi Task Team officers pounced on a wanted taxi hit-man in Ezakheni.
23-year-old Sandile Mabaso appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court yesterday (July 4), facing three counts of murder.
He was remanded back into custody until July 11 for further investigation and for a bail application.
The suspect was arrested yesterday by the Provincial Taxi Task Team after following up on information supplied to them about the whereabouts of an alleged taxi hit-man.
Sandile has been linked to tavern murder cases that were reported in October last year.

The first incident was reported on October 1, 2016, at 8pm, when the victim, 20-year-old Mxolisi Thabede, was shot and killed at a tavern in Ezakheni A-Section.
A few hours later, at about 11.30pm, 21-year-old Lungelo Hlongwane and 25-year-old Thoba Ndaba were shot and killed at another tavern in B-Section.

The Provincial Taxi Task Team took over the investigation and their hard work yielded positive results when they arrested the suspect and linked him to these murders.
The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, commended the officers for the arrest of the suspect. “We will not tolerate criminals who attack and kill citizens in the province for no apparent reason. Our detectives will thoroughly investigate these cases and collect sufficient evidence against the suspect who killed innocent people who were enjoying themselves at taverns,” he said.
