Update: Municipal workers protest over hiring policy

Calls to the municipality are going unanswered, with calls being re-routed to Public Safety as the municipality seems to be completely shut down.

Municipal workers at the Department of Hygiene, Engineering & Services are still protesting.

The workers are furious with department officials and burned tyres outside the offices yesterday (July 5).

The protest stems from internal posts within the department going to people from outside the municipality rather than the permanent hiring of “job creation workers” who are already doing the jobs.
