Agra grounds left in a state causing concerns for coaches

The coaches added that the gates have all been removed from the ground which allows anyone to use it and the ground is littered with used condoms and condom wrappers

Speaking to coaches, players and residents who use the Agra grounds for sport, training and fitness say that the ground has deteriorated over the years.

They say the ground is in such a bad state, that for almost 2 years its unusable and now the change-rooms have been completely destroyed with no running water available for anyone and also no toilet facilities.

All the windows to the change-rooms are broken and everything else has been stolen including taps and the washbasins, said one of the coaches who uses the ground for coaching.

A cricket coaching program which is held for young children on a regular basis say that if the children need to use the ablution facilities they are rushed home to use same.

To add, the matter of the poor condition of the ground, the tennis courts and batting practice nets have been destroyed due to fires and overgrown grass and also the fencing on the nets have rusted beyond repair.

The coaches added that the gates have all been removed which allows anyone to gain access to the ground which is also littered with used condoms and condom wrappers.

Young children see this and think its a balloon and how can this be allowed to happen at a sports ground said a furious coach. Coaches say that the ground is also filled with thorns which makes it difficult for people to play on.

IPF cllr Abbas Warasally visited the ground and said the stench coming from the change rooms is horrendous and it seems like there are people who are living in there, he commented further on the matter saying that Agra grounds was one of the elite sporting grounds in the town and is now a disaster area and the rate payers money is going to waste as the ground is not been taken care off.
