Mabhanoyini housing projects kicks off

Over 1 000 houses will be built for residents

The sod was turned, symbolising the start of a housing project building where over 1 000 houses will be built for residents in the Mabhanoyini area.

The event took place last Thursday at the community hall. Speaking to hundreds of community members that came to witness this historic day, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Jabulile Mbele said: “I’m happy today because I am here to fulfil what the government promised when it took over political power in 1994. This is just the beginning of greater things to come in this area”.

During the celebratory sod turning ceremony, the Mayor also spoke about the imbalances of the past that affected mostly black communities and explained why government decided to build houses for all people that need them, regardless of where they stay.
She also thanked the community of Mabhanoyini for their patience.

In her closing remarks she congratulated the community for being beneficiaries in this housing project.

Traditional leader, Mr Zamisa thanked the Mayor, councillors and municipal officials for the visit and urged the community to allow the project to progress peacefully.
