Three men were arrested for common robbery in Newcastle CBD on Tuesday, June 20, by members of Newcastle 911 Community Policing Forum.
The CPF received information concerning three suspects who were allegedly robbing people of their belongings in town. Anxious to apprehend the men, members contacted the Newcastle police.
After conducting investigations, the three suspects were arrested and charged with common robbery.
They appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on June 21 to be charged.
As part of its safety initiative, Newcastle police issued the following tips when in the CBD:
– Avoid exposing valuable items such as jewellery, cell phones and cash.
– Never walk alone and don’t talk to strangers.
– Be aware of strange cars or people.
– Walk in well lit and busy streets and in a group, if possible.
– Be sure that you know all the emergency numbers or have them visibly displayed.
– Always let someone know where you are going, and how long you will be gone.
– Think twice before advertising your impending absence on social media. Criminals also have access to social media platforms.
– Always trust your instincts.
– Avoid going into congested streets.
