Sew Ramdeen (68) who lives in Seventh Avenue has been battling illegal dumping and littering, which is infringing on his property.
It’s been a concern for the family for more than three years.

Litter and refuse from a home in Eleventh Avenue is flooding into Mr Ramdeen’s yard. He has written letters to the municipality, cleaned up the mess himself but now he says that it is time for action.

“I am so fed up of this. The dirt flies into my yard all the time. Previously the municipality issued a written warning but it did not last long. I have to pick up the dirt every day,” said an exasperated Mr Ramdeen.

He points to a heap of domestic refuse, which he has gathered up and asks if he should be responsible for cleaning up. “How are we expected to live like this? It’s time that the municipality did something to help us,” he added.

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Cleansing Manager Hlanganani Hlongwane said that the Waste Management Team was currently busy with clearing up illegally dumped waste in all parts of Estcourt.

“We encourage residents to direct all environmental issues and illegal dumping complaints to the Environmental Officer Mr M Makuyi on 036 352 2353. This will allow for proper recording and co-ordination of all activities associated with all complaints received,” said Mr Hlongwane.
