Animal by-laws to be implemented in Dannhauser

The animal will only be released once the owner pays a penalty fee and can prove that the animal indeed does belong to them

Animals wandering the streets of Dannhauser will soon be a thing of the past thanks to the new animal pound by-laws.

The pound will be in operation in the coming months, once a pound manager has been hired.
The municipality is currently advertising for one. Once the pound is in operation, animals found trespassing on land or wandering unattended in a public place or a public road will be impounded.

The owner of the land the animal is trespassing on, an official of the council, any SAPS member or the pound manager may have the animal impounded. Animals that can be impounded include any bovine or equine animal, or any donkey, sheep, goat, pig or any form of poultry.

The animal will only be released once the owner pays a penalty fee and can prove that the animal indeed does belong to them. Animals not claimed within 30 days shall be sold in a public auction. This is great relief to residents of the town, who on many occasions, have animals wandering into their properties.

Animals are also commonly seen in and around the town, posing as a hazard to motorists and shop owners.
