Cllr Ntombela is dedicated to serving the community
This councillor has worked tirelessly to source funds from different governmental departments in order to improve service delivery in his ward.
WARD 5’s Councillor Mdititi Ntombela may just be the perfect example of what an unsung hero is.
This councillor has worked tirelessly to source funds from different governmental departments in order to improve service delivery in his ward.
Cllr Ntombela approached the Human Settlement Department and requested that members of his community receive housing after their homes were damaged during the storms in 2010.
More than 200 houses were built for the community (ten of these being built by Rural Development).
“In most instances I have opted to personally approach government departments to request assistance with different issues in my ward, I find that this makes things easier as I am able to engage with the people and thereafter specify exactly what they need,” said Cllr Ntombela.

Schools such as Isiqulwane Primary, Enqabeni Combined School and Umfolozi Secondary have also reaped the fruit of their councillor’s hard work.
According to Councillor Ntombela, Isqulwane and Enqabeni are currently under renovations thanks to the initiative they took as a community to request assistance from the Department of Education in terms of improving these schools.
Umfolozi is being rebuilt as it was previously built from asbestos. The school will also be getting new classes to enable it to accommodate the learners better. They will be getting a library, computer centre as well as a science lab to improve the standards of education in the school.
About R5 million was spent on Umfolozi while R13 million was ploughed into Enqabeni.

A transportation project was also introduced to these rural schools as a means to help the students get to and from school safely.
Cllr Ntombela also sought out funding to assist with the maintenance of the sewer systems in the Mnyathi and Bokwe areas.
“A contractor is currently working in the Bokwe area. Mnyathi has already been completed and it took the contractor six months to work on the area and should take half that time to complete Bokwe,” said Cllr Ntombela.
Although there initially were 5000 houses without electricity, only 200 are left and even those will be getting it soon.
Cllr Ntombela said that although R5 million was allocated for electricity by MEC for COGTA, Nomsa Dube-Ncube, the projects seem to be stalling due to the contractors not being paid by the municipality.
It has been more than a year since the said contractors have been working on places such as Emalaynini (Shoba) and things are still moving very slowly.
Along with all these other projects, Cllr Ntombela has worked with the Department of Transport to complete roads such as the Shikila Road (12 kms), Mghobhozi Road (22 kms), Vumani Road (5 kms), Bokwe Road and Ntabankulu Road (which was built by AbaQulusi Municipality).
The councillor has also requested the department to put speedhumps on the road near the Shoba homes as the number of accidents around the area has risen alarmingly.
Projects that Ward 5 people can look forward to are an Economic Development small business summit by Sihle Zikalala, which will be held at the end of August.
There will also be a Men’s Month Awareness campaign which will be held on July 23 at Enyathi Combined School from 10am.
There are many other projects Cllr Ntombela will be working on in the future as he continues to do his bit to restore the public’s faith in the municipality.
