IEC encourages ongoing registrations
The IEC has an ongoing voter registration program where anyone 18 years and older is encouraged to register and be on the voters roll irrespective of whether it is an elections year or not.
THE LOCAL IEC is encouraging Vryheiders to constantly check the voting status to ensure that they are eligible to vote in the coming elections while there is still time.
The IEC has an ongoing voter registration program where anyone 18 years and older is encouraged to register and be on the voters roll irrespective of whether it is an elections year or not.
According to the IEC’s Mpume Dlamini, they have a working relationship with the local home affairs and often head out to inform young people about registration when home affairs goes to hand out ID smart-cards to different schools.

“We are also hoping to work hand-in-hand with the local municipality to assist people with registrations when they go to the municipality for services like proof of residence letters and electricity statements,” said Mrs Dlamini.
She also emphasised that people need to check their voting status at the IEC. Even if you are on the voters roll, be sure to check that the IEC has your correct physical address.
“Although there are currently 96 000 people on AbaQulusi’s voters roll, we do not have the residential addresses for 70 000 of these people. If we do not have your address by June 30 next year, you will not be able to vote,” she continued.
Mrs Dlamini encourages locals to visit the IEC offices at 153 Juris Forum Building, Landrost Street to check their voting status.
Offices are open from 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
Only the green bar-coded ID, smart cards and temporary IDs are welcome. No ID photocopies or licenses.
