A total of 20 suspects aged between 18 and 59 were arrested during the course of the past weekend. The suspects were arrested in different station areas in the Uthukela Cluster for being in possession of drugs, firearms and ammunition.
12 suspects were found in possession of illegal drugs.
Close to 10kg of dagga with a street value of R15,000, mandrax tablets as well as a small amount of whoonga straws were recovered during the operation.
The arrests were made in the Bergville, Upper Tugela, Colenso, Ezakheni, Ntabamhlope and Ladysmith areas.
Eight suspects aged between 23 and 59 were arrested for being in possession of either unlicensed firearms or ammunition.

Four suspects were arrested in a vehicle in the Emachibini area of Ezakheni. When officers searched the vehicle they were travelling in, it was discovered that a 9mm pistol with two rounds of ammunition was hidden in a bag.
A 23-year-old man was arrested in Ezakheni C-Section after being found in possession of four rounds of ammunition.
A 26-year-old man from Ezakheni was arrested after being found in possession of suspected stolen property. When officers searched his room, two rounds of ammunition were found. The man has been charged for being in possession of ammunition.
The arrests were made possible with the assistance of the various communities who have chosen to partner with the SAPS and rid their communities of illegal drugs and firearms.
The suspects appeared briefly in different courts on Monday (August 14).
