Dannhauser police arrested a 19-year-old suspect for drunken driving, as well as resisting arrest on August 18 near Allen farm outside Dannhauser.
According to Dannhauser SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Sergeant M.L Nyembe, the suspect was recklessly overtaking vehicles, and endangering oncoming traffic.
When he was signalled to pull over by police officers, it is alleged the driver refused to stop, and this resulted in a high speed car chase with police until he was finally brought to a stop.
Police came to the conclusion the driver was heavily intoxicated.
“While executing the arrest, it is believed two of the occupants of his vehicle attempted to stop police from doing the arrest.”
All three suspects were then put in handcuffs and charged with defeating the ends of justice, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
They appeared before the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court, and the case was postponed pending further investigation.
