The 30-year-old woman was on her way home at about 7pm on April 3, 2016 when an unknown man preyed on her. He grabbed hold of the woman, telling her that he loved her. Shortly thereafter, he raped her.

“Before leaving he gave her his cell phone number claiming that he wanted to make apologies to her family for his actions towards her. The clever woman took down the number and the suspect’s identity was later discovered using the number given,” explained police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

Seven days later, a 28-year-old was arrested.

“Ayanda Phumokwakhe Mazibuko was sentenced in the Ladysmith Regional Court to eight years’ imprisonment,” added Captain Struwig.
