WATCH: R34 Memel Road makes a bad first impression

Litter overflowing from refuse bins along the R34 Memel Road was cause for residents to take to social media this week.

The R34 Memel Road is one of three arterial routes into Newcastle.

For first-time visitors to town however, their first impression might not be positive.

This is thanks to the sordid state of refuse bins along at the roadside.

Residents brought attention to problems via social media yesterday (Thursday).

Complaints were that bins between the Impala Drive and Gemsbok Avenue portion were overflowing.

Litter has been heaped up around bins as a result.

Municipal staff gathered refuse for removal this morning (Friday, September 15).

However, questions have been asked of municipal officials regarding this matter.

This is a developing story and feedback is expected going forward.
